sometime's if they need to do some background-investigation to get more info on your visa status / educational background / name check or what-ever for no-reason etc , they just place you in this status. the tricky thing is do never know how long the wait is. ive heard / read some people have to wait in months for no reason. you should be happy that you received it in 2 weeks.

Hello Folks,
I am on H1-B since Aug2009 and last year I transferred around 40K USD to parents. All these transfers were spread over the year in the denominations of 5K per transaction.(As and when I saved money).
My question is, do I have to pay taxes in US on this money transferred to India. I know that my parents don't have to but I am not sure about myself.
Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated. Thanks,

Finally I gave a thought to all this GC business and I am planning to start my Canadian PR too, here are my questions :
1. Does anybody know of any good immigration cunsulting company for Canadian PR processing ?
2. How much would be the total cost to get it done throught the consulting services ?
3. Are there any hidden costs which these companies tell you at the end and try to rip you ?

Companies will always say u qualify to get you on board (for the money they get)
well companies will put the burden on u to get 7 in each section.
So my advice is u first get 7 in each section. Then only u will know if u

Why don't we just voluntarily mention the amount that we contributed in our signatures ? Since contributions are voluntary, so should be the option of disclosing information on it. When many contributing members start furnishing their contribtion information voluntarily, it becomes the "fashion" and others will follow suit, as no one wants to look like a free-rider.
As for the veracity of the information, we got to trust each other on that and follow an audit policy- I assume the core members/ administrators have the ability to cross-check the contribution information if someone looks suspicious. Anyone caught furnishing false information can be blacklisted. Such a policy minimises the work of the core team, without being overly intrusive.

The elimination of NC delays will reflect positively on many pending applications with earlier PDs.

There is no doubt that people from time to time go through a tense and agonizying moment while the noise of clock ticking is getting louder and lauder. Reportedly, that is what the leaders of the agencies have been going through to abate things going out of control politically. Rep. Zoe Lofgren is a powerful chairwomea of the Judiciary Committee Immigration Subcommitee of the House of Representatives. Day before yesterday, she served a request for information, record, documents, and evidence in the tone of a discovery in the court proceeding. The letter resembled the combination of request for admission and demand for records in the federal court proceeding. The Secretary of Homeland Security was given only three days to meet the demand. Apparently, the leaders of the DHS and USCIS have been struggling to work out some kind of solutions and thereby prevent thing going out of control as the records, emails, documents, etc. etc. can turn out to be very smelly and juicy depending on which side of the party politics one is involved. Under the circumstances, the leaders have been talking about various options with the departments and pending the discussions, everything has been on hold including the visa bulletin release schedules.
Yesterday, we described potential four options for the DOS and the USCIS. Unconfirmed sources indicate that the last option appears to be "out." Obviously there are still under a tremendous pressure to work out a solution before the three-day deadline of the Congresswoman's investigatory demand. It is going to be a very tense and stressful weekend for these officials. For that matter, the immigrants may also go through a similar process emotionally during the weekend, not knowing when and what information will be released during the weekend or Monday. Eyes of the many immigrants will be glued to the computer monitors. May God Help the Poor Souls! Amen.

Just wanted to confirm - this discussion is pertinent only for cases where the new H1 (3 yr) is pending at the time the person travels overseas, right?
For example, if your current visa (and I-94) expires on Feb 28, but you already have a new visa valid for 3 years starting Mar 1, you can re-enter US within Feb 28. Then you can go to Canada/Mexico/Home country, get the new visa stamped on your passport, and on that basis get a new I-94, right?
I don't seem to see any confusion here....or am I missng something?

when I reached DC on Monday. Countless "Airborne" tabs in water during the day kept me going for the lawmaker meetings(I did 95% of the talking), the reception on Monday evening and the rally.
I cannot explain the experience felt at the rally. There were infants, small children and many many strollers. I took pictures of all of them (will upload during the day).
I was thrilled to meet "macaca". "guyfromsg" was awesome with his spirit all throughout. Chandu sported dark glasses and looked awesome and he was still charged to get more people to the rally.
It is very unfortunate that many of you just squandered such a great opportunity to be part of history. The 1500 numbers floating around is not true. There were more people than that. We will know soon from IV core.
Greg Siskind sported his IV TShirt and he was proud to be taking part in the rally. He spent a lot of time with IV.
"NeedHelp" came with her 3-4 year old daughter who is quite sweet and sat at the first row at the gathering on the lawns of the US Capitol.

2. Others tell us that some Congressmen are advocating a 12,000-15,000 visa allotment for Schedule A visas. This would be a band-aid measure designed to get us visas until a CIR-type bill could be passed in spring/summer 2007.
3. Some GOP members do not want any appropriations measures � including the 12,000-15,000 band-aid or a more robust SKIL Bill � attached to any appropriations bill. In other words, they want to pass a Continuing Resolution (CR) and then they just want to go home. The CR effectively extends the funding for the Iraq War into the New Year and then lets the next Congress deal with it.

I am a July 2nd filer and my checks cashed on August 14th. My notice date is 10th August for 485 , EAD and AP. Just wanted to kow if anyone has received any notice for FP? I called USCIS and it seems that the FP notices are issued by the Local ASC's and not by the Nebraska center. Is this true? I always thought that Nebraska center sent the FP notice and not the local ASC's. Is their anyone who has a similiar Notice Date and has received the FP notice?

We got our EAD in the mail today - We are late June filers (29th June) and got our receipt numbers last week, - I have some q's-
-Can one get EAD without completing FInger printing? In the finger priniting colum on the EAD it says - not available, Would that matter?
-How does one activate his/her EAD?
-Have any other late june filers already got their EAD?

I was wondering how L1 can be allowed instate tuition while H1-B's have to pay out of state according to the Arizona list. What exactly is the fundamental difference between the 2 which results in L1's fulfilling the requirements?

I'm sure you can give these guy's a run for their money. One thing - if you pursue it long and hard enough I think there is a chance that you can get instate tuition. The only area I was concerned about was the domicile part but if L1's can prove domicile so can H1-B's.

No response yet from WillIBLucky. Does any other member want to organize the call for this chapter? pls. go ahead. Members need to take active role in the state chapter and keep it alive. It is easy to give ideas and question others but is difficult to actually work for something. I urge chapter members to communicate with each other and organize a call.
