I agree with you and everybody should keep supporting the IV that brought 14000 members on to a single flat form and share the views, sarrows and happiness.
A big thank you to the IV CORE TEAM.
This is welcome news. However, we should focus on the broader goals of our organization.
Retrogression is far from over. Stop for a moment, celebrate and take the necessary action sure, but do not forget that we have to make efforts so that even folks who come later do not face this issue.
Also dont forget we are not out of the woods yet. The visa numbers and country quota issue along with FBI name check has to be solved ASAP.
However, I would certainly take this opportunity to thank Core, esp WaldenPond, Pappu and logiclife for their commitment and leadership. Core : We are with you and will continue to contribute even when our problems are solved. We should be united and be strong so that we are heard and justice is brought to all of us.

Congrats buddy!
For VSC to TSC transferees, does it give a hint that they'll consider the transfer date which falls in March 2007 as RD?
Hey,
We just saw "Card production ordered" status change on our 485 applications.
So this proves that TSC is indeed processing 485 apps.
Our 485 apps were originally filed with TSC, then transferred to NSC in Dec 2007, again transferred back to TSC in Apr 2008.
Its been a long wait!! Hopefully we see a lot of approvals for people stuck in this for a while.
Thanks a lot IV, for all the support.

Hi TRSSPK,
If you plan to go back after getting your GC, you can not practically keep it "active/alive" until your kids are college age. Well, I'm assuming that you have young kids or no kids just yet. Going back after citizenship is easy because you can get OCI and stay in India (without an option of purchasing agri land there). An OCI acts just like a Indian GC (if you ask me).
Re: SS - Forget about SS if you're not maintaining your GC actively. For Indian nationals (not american citizen), you have to prove your active green card status maintenance/residence address etc. when you start applying for SS. Becoming a citizen solves this puzzle.
So the bottom line is - if you want to keep the US option open for you or your kids, get a US citizenship - not sure when we will all be able to qualify for that. You can apply after 4.5years on GC. So in about 10-12years timeframe you will be able to apply. The only downside of this really Loooong wait is that by that time your roots here would have grown/become more mature here, and it would be difficult to move (kids/wife/husband not wanting to move life style changes, career options, Indian inflation etc etc.)
Cheers!
PS: I just wish as part of the CIR, we could get some releief such as able to apply for citizenship after 2 years on GC status OR 7-8 years from GC priority date. Not sure if this is on our (IV's) strategic agenda?

I just cannot stand the continuous and unreasonable complaining people do just because their GC is delayed.
Thanks for sharing your story. Glad you are working for an employer who is treating you well, we thank you for still contributing to IVs effort (dont know why though)..though you do not need GC that much.
Constant complaining can irritate I agree but calling it unreasonable, I did not get that. If people had not complained that much, if IV had not fought for us during July fiasco, we wouldnt have got EADs now, imagine how much of a difference it made to our families including myself.
I agree with your point that we should not get depressed or worried about GC though it is hard not to think about it.

A list of allowed federal benefits can be found here:
https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0100203510!opendocument
Reading the information on this page in detail, I now think that the
"2008 RECOVERY REBATES FOR INDIVIDUALS"
is a valid reason for a SSN for nonworking reasons.
There are at least three different uses of SSNs in the Internal Revenue Code:
One as an identification number, one for the earned income credit and
now one for the 2008 rebate.
The first use is not a valid reason for an SSN. The SSA writes:
--------------
Under U.S. tax law, taxpayers and certain other individuals must provide a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) to IRS (26 USC 6109(e)). The TIN may be either the SSN assigned by SSA, or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), a 9-digit number assigned by IRS.
IRS will assign an ITIN to a taxpayer, spouse or dependent who needs a TIN for tax purposes but does not otherwise meet SSA's requirements for an SSN.
--------------
For the second use the SSA writes:
-------------
Only work authorized aliens are eligible for EIC (as the taxpayer claiming the EIC or as the qualifying child). Such eligible aliens may apply for SSNs. EIC purposes is not a valid nonwork reason for assigning an SSN.
-------------
This argument breaks obviously down in case of the 2008 rebate.
In fact, the tax law makes some sense: The SSA verifies that the alien
aplying for a SSN is in a legal status.

Congrats man,
How abt thanking IV with what ever contribution you could give.
Yep. we kinda lost hope on the GC process for a while and started to live life normally :). But we do follow the visa bulletins and processing times. Based on the latest bulletin, I started checking this thread.
BTW i was quite surprised to see our approval from TSC, as I understood TSC hasnt been giving out any approvals recently and was lagging behind NSC.

IV should definitely have some more details through FOIA that what is already available to public, atleast I believe so. Since I am no longer a Donor, as I was not subscribed to monthly contribution, I do not know those specifics...

hank you for sharing your experience of Black Friday at Walmart. ...
That's probably part of the problem here. You have your supermarkets and Walmarts all mixed up. I've never even mentioned anything about Walmart... and you do nothing but keep harping on it and how its customers are cheap and how they care about $1 over 20 minutes. There's no need to insult a third-party just because you got a bone to pick with me. The original issue is deep buried in this red-herring.
Go, read these links and that'll give you some clue about labor shortage in supermarkets:

hey bigboy, do you actually work or just post ridiculous comments? you're wasting your employer's time. phone calls to uscis are meaningless. everyone i know at my firm is filing right now and is not having any of these problems. receipt notices will come in a week or two. think about how many apps are being filed.
Arent u wasting ur employers time while filing 485 and rather wasting his dreams by becoming Greencard holder Many of friends are filing too , why does ppl like u bark at info if you are not interested dont respond let me share info i have with everyone. It is more worth than ppl like you wasting time on bulletin predictions.

Infact the more the company talks about diversity the bigger the sham
Good for you, since there aren't a lot of companies that do that. At most places diversity is just a sham.

AOS is your status- This allows you to stay in US as long as your application is pending/approved.
EAD is work authorization. This allows you to work in US.
If you have I-485 pending and no EAD/H1, you cannot work. However you are eligible to stay in US as long as your 485 is pending.
While the section u r quoting are supportive to ur opinion, which all of us had all this time, the sections Sledge_Hammer pointed out are more clear about the distinction between, Status and Presence. It actually contradicts ur view. If IO reads those sections, he can order deportation of AOS candidates with no H1 extension. Its very contradicting...
